Course Description

 

Intro To Sewing Technology 101.

If you are interested in learning how to sew, this beginner course is for you. The aim of this six-week pilot course is to teach basic sewing skills to those who have no previous experience or to sharpen the skills of those who have limited sewing experience. Students will also complete a project that consists of an A-line skirt with waistband and zipper. The students will be utilizing the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 computerized sewing machine that features 600 built-in stitches including alphanumeric stitches, 13 fully automatic button holes, and a 1-Touch electronic automatic thread cutter. If you are interested in participating in this course, please sign up quickly for one of the limited time slots of the three sessions offered on Saturdays. There is a maximum of 5 students per session. The center will provide each student, a supplies kit which will contain shears, seam ripper, tape measure, box of pins and 18” clear ruler. If time allows, we may make a trip to a local fabric store to look at and discuss the different fabrics etc. Students will be instructed at the first class on how to purchase their own pattern and fabric in order to complete their skirt project. Course Fee is $45. ***Limited to 5 students max per session time! ***

COURSE Overview:

  • Learn sewing machine basics
  • Learn how to thread a sewing machine and bobbin
  • Learn basic sewing stitches, techniques, and terminology
  • Learn how to choose and read a pattern
  • Construct a complete, A-line skirt, including waistband and 
      zipper
